Oh My God! This McKay 59 Standard is by far one of the best Les Paul replica guitars we have had in the store.
30 years in the business, owning several 50s and 60s conversions, working on many original Bursts, it is hard to excite us with replica guitars. But this time it happened.
Ken McKay is famous for his vintage Gibson golden era guitars restorations and it is evident that he puts all his expertise and knowledge, collected through many years of work on vintage guitars, into his own builds.
Ken reminds me of myself, I started Kloppmann-Electrics as a restoration house just like he did with guitars. When we met in Italy earlier this year, we instantly connected as we both love and appreciate great tone, guitars and well, food. Like me, Ken's aim is not to replicate 1:1 the iconic 59 Burst (in my world, the iconic PAF pickup), but to give it his own interpretation. The contoured back and horn are a great example of that, as well as other appoitnments and that super cool Greenish-Goldish finish.
The McKay 59 Standard has a Mahogany body, Red Michigan Maple top, Rosewood fretboard on a Mahogany neck. It weighs 3.9Kg and it sings beautifully and authentically through its pair of Kloppmann-Electrics HB59 pickups.
As this Standard 59 came to us from a show in Milano with a premium gigbag, it is priced slightly lower than the usual price. It is a fantastic deal on a fantastic guitar.
