A steel baseplateto enhance the inductive low part of your Strat Pickups.
The isolation of the baseplate from the magnets already is mounted.
The baseplate features a strip of fabric tape on its underside. This is designed to soak up wax or paraffin, thereby securing the plate in place once it cools. During manufacturing, we submerge the entire assembly in a large paraffin bath. For the home workshop, I recommend the following method: shave a few paraffin crumbs off a candle and place them on the underside of the pickup. The plate requires a small ground wire, which you should connect to the solder joint of the black wire. Tinning the solder joint for this ground wire heats up the entire plate, melting the paraffin chunks. While doing this, I recommend screwing two pickup mounting screws into the mounting holes from below; this prevents the plate from shifting and ensures the screws can engage the threads later without forcing the plate off. Once the plate is lying flat and the ground wire is attached, you can cool the assembly down with some freeze spray if you have it handy. If not, simply wait a moment for everything to set.
You can also place the pickup in the refrigerator for a short while. I’ve done this a few times myself—only to spend hours the next day trying to find the pickup again. That is, until a latte drinker stumbled upon it and asked, "WHO put a pickup in the fridge?" . . . . . Oh right, . . . . that was me!
Good luck!
